Thai-German Bioenergy Link (ThaiGerBio)

Weiterbildung

The project “Thai-German BioenergyLink” was a collaborative activity, involving a consortium of three German Universities (HTW Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg), in cooperation with the King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Bangkok, a leading research and higher education institution in Thailand as the Thai consortium member.

The focus of the project was the further development of the utilization of Biomass as energy source on a sustainable basis. International research cooperation is required to solve existing barriers in the various interdisciplinary fields (technological, economical, ecological and social aspects of the utilization). The project contributed to achieve better coordination and cooperation between Thai and German research institutions in the field of Energetic Biomass Utilization with special focus on promising Energy crops, agricultural wastes and byproducts of the industrial processing of agricultural products. Within the project the partners establised a science-bridge in the bioenergy field between leading research institutions of both countries. The project furthermore strengthened the capabilities to develop cooperative research activities in both countries. Opportunities and barriers for a sustainable utilization of bioenergy in both countries were identified. The two countries have different approaches to biomass utilization technologies and supply chains.
