Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Birgit Müller completed her degree in energy and process engineering at TU Berlin in 1997. She went on to conduct research at TU Berlin in the fields of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (Hermann-Rietschel-Institut), where she received her doctorate in 2002 and obtained her university teaching qualification (Habilitation) in 2009. Between 2007 and 2011 she was the director of the Hermann-Rietschel-Institut. In October 2010, Birgit Müller came to HTW Berlin as a professor to teach the Building Energy and Building Information Technology study programme. In 2013 she was elected as the Vice-Dean of the School of Engineering — Energy and Information. She has held the position of Vice-President for Teaching since October 2014.
The Vice-President for Teaching is responsible for teaching and learning, examinations, further education, the Study Advisory Service, Career Services, promoting business start-ups, eLearning, the Foreign Languages Centre and quality management in teaching. Her responsibilities also include the process management portal and process analysis, digitalisation and coordinating the future plans of the faculties. The Vice-President for Teaching represents the University Board in matters involving the Committee for Academic Affairs and the Evaluation Committee of the University Council.
