Partners and networks

HTW Berlin is represented in numerous regional and interregional research associations and industry networks. Our connections with the professional world promote the exchange of experience, enabling the university to participate in major initiatives in research and business.

HTW Berlin is a member of the European University Association (EUA) and the German Alliance of Applied Sciences (HAWtech). It is also actively involved in IFAF Berlin (Berlin Institute for Applied Research), an association of state-governed universities of applied sciences in Berlin that promotes interdisciplinary research projects with small and medium-sized enterprises.

HTW Berlin also cooperates with renowned research centres such as the Helmholtz, Fraunhofer and Leibniz institutes and is currently engaged in over four hundred and fifty active research cooperation partnerships. Many of our corporate partners work in the environment and energy sector, ICT or biotechnology. Key partners are also based in the construction and real estate sector, mechanical engineering, the automotive industry or culture and creative industries.

Synergies between research and practice

Collaborating with HTW Berlin is an attractive proposition for companies from a broad range of industries, particularly for SMEs who are unable to draw on their own in-house research capacities. Public-sector institutions and non-profit organisations requiring research also benefit. Cooperation can take the form of privately funded contract research or a publicly funded research and development project. Research is often linked with study projects, dissertations or theses. Working together with our practice partners, our researchers develop new concepts and solutions or optimise processes and products, often resulting in new inventions and patents.
