Who can apply directly to HTW Berlin?

You should apply directly to HTW Berlin if one of the following requirements applies to you:

  • You have a German university entrance qualification (e.g. German Abitur (secondary school leaving examination)).
  • You have German nationality or are a citizen of an EU or EEA country.
  • You want to change your degree programme within HTW Berlin.
  • You have successfully completed a preparatory course (Studienkolleg) in Germany.

Online application: step by step

  1. Registration at hochschulstart.de
    Prioritisation on hochschulstart.de: if HTW Berlin is your university of choice, assign it priority 1.
  2. Application via the HTW Berlin application portal within the application deadlines
    Specification of BID and BAN (user data from Hochschulstart)  

Required documents

When you apply online, you will be shown which documents you need to upload.

  • Your application documents must be received in full by HTW Berlin by the application deadline. The date of submission to the university is decisive.
  • Incomplete applications cannot be considered.
  • Please do not send any unsolicited documents by post or email.
  • All required documents must be uploaded in digital form only.

The application documents must be submitted in German or English. Documents in other languages also require an officially certified translation into German or English. You can find a list of sworn translators in Germany at the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators.

When uploading your documents, please note the following:

  • Preferably in PDF format (JPG is accepted in individual cases)
  • Sort multi-page documents in the correct order 
  • Use logical file names (e.g. “Grade Overview_Uni_...”)
  • Ensure good legibility and quality

Update subsequent changes

  • Change contact details: Send an email with the new data and corresponding proof (e.g. registration certificate) to the Student Service Centre at HTW Berlin. Ensure you include your application number and your chosen degree programme in the subject line.
  • Application-related changes (e.g. degree programme, study type): You must complete a new online application for these types of changes.
  • Applications that have already been submitted can no longer be processed: If you would like to change information or if you have noticed errors and your application has not yet been processed by the university, please withdraw your application. Only then can you make changes and resubmit the application within the application deadline. Your application will not be processed by the university during the withdrawal period.

Admission offer via hochschulstart.de

You can submit up to 12 applications, but you will only receive one admission offer. Only when you have accepted our admission offer on the Hochschulstart platform will the notice of admission be generated in the HTW Berlin application portal, allowing you to enrol.
