Anniversary event brings the international life sciences community together at Campus Wilhelminenhof

June 5 2026 – HTW Berlin marked a decade of its international Master's programme MBA & Engineering in Life Science Management (LSM) by bringing together around 150 guests from across the global life sciences community. More than a celebration, the anniversary became a dynamic forum for exchange—highlighting how closely academia and industry continue to shape one another.

At Campus Wilhelminenhof, representatives from the pharmaceutical, medical technology, biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and digital health sectors came together—ranging from multinational companies to agile start-ups. Many of them have played an active role in shaping the programme over the years, contributing through guest lectures, supervising Master's theses or engaging with students at LSM Career Days. Their continued involvement reflects what has become a defining feature of the programme: a strong, living connection between academic learning and industry practice.

This spirit of connection was equally visible among the many alumni, current students and teaching staff in attendance. Together with representatives from the University Board and across HTW Berlin, they formed a vibrant, international network spanning disciplines, generations and career stages.

Opening the event, Prof. Dr Claudia Baldauf, founder and Programme Director, and Deputy Director Prof. Dr Hans Henning von Horsten reflected on how the programme has evolved over the past decade. In the LSM Dialogue that followed, the discussion moved beyond retrospective insights to explore current developments in the life sciences sector—particularly the growing demand for professionals who can bridge scientific expertise with managerial and strategic thinking in an increasingly globalised environment.

"For the past ten years, the programme has shown just how powerfully science, industry and international career opportunities can be connected," said Prof. Dr Claudia Baldauf. "It is no coincidence that our students chose the anniversary motto: Science Meets Strategy – Celebrating 10 Years of Impact."

Keynote speaker Dr Kai Bindseil, Head of Healthcare Industries, Industry and Infrastructure at Berlin Partner, placed the programme within a broader regional context. He highlighted the Berlin-Brandenburg region as one of Europe's leading life sciences hubs—driven not by natural resources, but by talent. In this landscape, programmes such as LSM play a vital role in preparing highly skilled professionals who can move seamlessly between scientific innovation and its application.

Prof. Dr Rauscher-Scheibe, President of HTW Berlin, echoed this perspective. She emphasised the programme's interdisciplinary strength, which enables graduates from fields such as life science engineering, biology, chemistry and pharmacy to take on key roles in managing complex healthcare projects and bringing innovations successfully to market.

Innovation was also on display during the LSM Student Challenge, where students presented forward-looking ideas at the intersection of life sciences and artificial intelligence—offering a glimpse into the next generation of solutions emerging from the programme.

As the formal programme gave way to the evening reception by the River Spree, the focus shifted from structured dialogue to informal exchange. Against a backdrop of music and conversation, guests reconnected, forged new relationships and continued discussions sparked throughout the day—underscoring the programme's enduring strength as a platform for collaboration.
