Responsibilities of the Representative Body for Severely Disabled Employees
The Representative Body for Severely Disabled Employees is legitimised under Section 178 of the German Social Code Book IX (SGB IX) and must be involved in all decision-making processes that affect employees with severe disabilities or equivalent status, either individually or as a group. Its responsibilities in particular include:

- promoting the recruitment and inclusion of people with (severe) disabilities and those with equivalent status,
- participating in the inclusion team to help create an accessible and inclusive work environment,
- ensuring compliance with legal regulations, such as the German Social Code Book IX (SGB IX), the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG), and the Act on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (BGG),
- offering individual, confidential support with applications, such as for the recognition of a degree of disability (GdB), equal status, or participation-related benefits,
- becoming involved at an early stage in cases of workplace conflict or potential dismissal, to develop preventive solutions and safeguard employment,
- confidentially supporting employees in proceedings and consultations with the university,
- working in close cooperation with the Staff Council, the Equal Opportunities Officer, university management, and external advisory bodies.
