Entry requirements for professors

Upon applying for a professorship at HTW Berlin, candidates are required

  • to have successfully completed a university degree.
  • to have a PhD or to be in the final stages of acquring a doctorate (a habilitation is not neccessary).
  • to have at least 5 years of working experience, 3 of which outside of any academic context.
  • to dispose of pedagogical and didactical skills. This can be proven through prior teaching experience.
  • to be able to hold lectures in general subjects of the given field. The teaching language is either German or English; a certain level of German language proficiency is required.
  • to be determined to procure and to implement projects in applied research.
  • to be willing to take on tasks as part of the university’s self-governance.

Please note that appointment procedures generally take several months. We, therefore, encourage your application even if you do not completly fullfill all requirements at the date of tender, but will do so in the near future.

HTW Berlin strives to increase the number of female professors. Qualified female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Disabled persons with equal qualifications to other candidates are preferentially employed.

Appointments to professorship are in full-time positions. Part-time employment is generally possible in accordance with LBG (Berlin Civil Service Act).

In order to apply for a professorship at HTW Berlin the following documents are generally necessary:

  • letter of application
  • curriculum vitae
  • PhD certificate or information about current state of postgraduate studies
  • diplomas (secondary education, studies)
  • certificates of employment
  • list of academic lectures and publications
  • list of academic seminars and evaluations (if applicable)
  • list of third-party funded research projects (if applicable)
  • list of supervised/ assessed degree theses (if applicable)
  • memberships or offices held in academic associations
  • list of completed training courses
