While family firm governance can be approached through stewardship or agency-based thinking, the focus haspredominantly remained on the internal family firm perspective. The influence of adjacent stakeholders and therole of national context in shaping governance structures aimed at preserving family legacy have receivedrelatively limited attention. This study investigates how broader stakeholder involvement and geographicaldifferences influence governance approaches in family firms. Specifically, it examines how governance structuresthat involve adjacent stakeholders influence the preservation of family legacy, and if there are differences betweenSweden and Germany.
