Diversity at HTW Berlin

Our strength lies in our diversity!

You could say that diversity is in HTW Berlin’s DNA. When the University was founded in 1994 by merging various predecessor institutions, employees, professors and students from East and West Germany and other countries found themselves united in the new establishment. Now, around 16,000 people from 130 countries with diverse life paths study, teach, research and work here at HTW Berlin. A considerable number of students are the first in their family to pursue an academic degree. HTW Berlin’s statistics also recognise non-binary gender identities, and diversity is taken into account at events. Thanks to a modern service agreement, employees can easily reconcile work and care duties.

University with diversity certificate

This was officially confirmed in March 2024. HTW Berlin received the Diversity Certificate from the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e.V. (Association for the Promotion of German Science and Humanities). This was preceded by a two-year process known as the Diversity Audit. In the course of this, the University further expanded its diversity strategy and developed a roadmap for further measures that it intends to implement by 2025.
