Finance and Accounting

Ralf Hafner's research focuses on corporate finance, corporate valuation, and mergers and acquisitions. He has also published on the digitization of teaching. He is the author of several German and English books on corporate valuation. From 1986 to 1988 he was editor of the journal Betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung und Praxis (BFuP). In his teaching, he focuses on imparting practical knowledge in modern, especially digital, teaching formats. He initiated the establishment of a Bloomberg Lab at the University of Applied Sciences Berlin (HTW) and integrated its use by students into his lectures.

After graduating from high school in the U.S. (1975), the German "Abitur" (1977), a bank apprenticeship and military service (reserve officer), Ralf Hafner studied business administration at the University of Cologne, graduating in 1985 with a degree in business administration (Diplom-Kaufmann). He then worked as a research assistant to Prof. Dr. Günter Sieben at the Treuhandseminar of the University of Cologne until 1988. He received his doctorate in 1988 on a topic in the field of business valuation. From 1989 to 2012, he worked as an M&A consultant and was involved in numerous corporate transactions. He has held senior positions in consulting firms, investment banks and as a partner in the transaction advisory practice of one of the Big Four. In 2012, he returned to academia and since 2013 he has been teaching mainly in the English-language Bachelor's and Master's programs in International Business at the University of Applied Sciences Berlin (HTW).​
