Prof. Dr. Klaus Semlinger studied economics and sociology at TU Berlin, completing his doctorate in economics in 1987. After his studies, he worked for a number of research institutes before being appointed as Professor of Economics at HTW Berlin in 1993. His academic work focuses on cooperation and network research as well as small and medium-sized enterprises. From 2002 to 2014, Prof. Dr. Klaus Semlinger served as Vice-President for Teaching and Academic Affairs at HTW Berlin. He has held the position of President of HTW Berlin since 1 October 2014.
As the Chairperson of the University Board, the President holds and exercises policy-making powers and is responsible for setting internal rules and regulations at HTW Berlin. His remit encompasses structural and development planning, the appointment and performance appraisal of staff, strategic controlling, quality management coordination, public relations, alumni relations, equal opportunities and gender mainstreaming. In organisational terms, the President functions as the supervisor for HTW Berlin’s professors. He represents HTW Berlin in matters concerning the State of Berlin and within the German Rectors’ Conference at both the federal state and national level. He also represents the University Board in matters involving the University Council, the Development and Planning Committee as well as the Board of Trustees.
