Supplementary Modules
Table of contents
Compulsory and elective modules
Supplementary modules teach interdisciplinary skills. They are offered as
- Compulsory modules (CM)
- Elective or compulsory elective modules (EM/CEM): foreign language modules or non-linguistic modules
There are no guaranteed places on supplementary module courses. The content of the non-linguistic modules may not correspond to the specialist training offered by the student’s own degree programme.
Foreign language courses: options
- All Bachelor students must take at least one foreign language. Depending on the degree programme, a second foreign language or additional non-linguistic supplementary modules are also possible.
- Your chosen language option is determined when you first register for the examination and can only be changed later in exceptional cases.
- Students who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in a language other than German may choose German as a foreign language.
The options specified in your study regulations determine the possible combinations:
- Option 1: foreign language (specialised language level) and non-linguistic supplementary modules from the selection offered by the faculties
- Option 2: first foreign language (specialised language level) and second foreign language (usually from foundation level)
- Option 3: specialisation of first foreign language (specialised language level + advanced level)
Please note: for students of Faculties 1 and 2, options 2 and 3 are in reverse.
Accreditation of supplementary modules (AWE)
In the event that no information on accreditation is provided in the course information, the following applies: The decision on whether a supplementary module from another subject area is accredited is taken by the examination board of your degree programme.
