Renewable Energy–Powered Smart Agriculture: From Conceptualization to Small-Scale Implementation for Sustainable Livelihood in the Gambella Region, Ethiopia (REPSA)

Forschungsprojekt

The REPSA project introduces renewable-energy-powered smart agriculture to address these challenges. Its holistic model, shown in Fig. 1,  integrates solar and biomass energy with solar irrigation, biogas production, IoT-based monitoring, sustainable soil management, and climate-resilient crop practices. These solutions aim to boost productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and expand access to clean energy. A 1 - 3 hectare pilot farm will be established as an integrated demonstration and capacity-building site to support hands-on training, system validation, and regional replication. Prior to field deployment, a laboratory-scale prototype mirroring the holistic model will be developed to test and optimize the system’s technological, environmental, and socio-economic performance under controlled conditions.
