Hyperfine structure investigation of Cobalt element by using laser induced flourescence spectroscopy (LIF-Co)

Forschungsprojekt

Precise information on the hyperfine structure (hfs), derived by means of high resolution spectroscopical methodes, provides a sensitive test of theoretical models used to describe internal atomic interactions such as configuration interactions and relativistic fine structure effects. For this reason much effort has been spent in recent years to obtain results from systematic studies of hyperfine structure.

Cobalt (Co) element analysis of the hyperfine structure has been the subject of many research. The reason was that the effect of hyperfine structure became increasingly important in astrophysics. It has been noticeable in work reporting on stellar abundances that elements with hyperfine structure have often been negleted because of the lack of good experimental atomic data. For the iron-group elements with odd atomic number, such as cobalt, the effect of hyperfine structure as a line-broadening mechanism must be taken into account in abundance studies.

The aim of this study is investigation of hyperfine structure (hfs) of Cobalt element by using laser induced flourescence (LIF) spectrometer. In this study, new levels that are observed but whose term classifications and lower and upper energy levels are experimently unknown will be discovered and their lines will be classified.

The data obtained at the end of the experiment will enable us to determine many magnetic dipole hyperfine constants, which had been unknown up to now. A parametric analysis of the magnetic dipole hyperfine structure will be performed by using experimental results.
